ParentSplit ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").

Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the Service.

Information We Collect

Personal Information

We may collect personal information that you voluntarily provide when using our Service, including:

  • Name and email address
  • Account credentials
  • Expense data and receipt images
  • Information about your children (names only, for expense categorization)
  • Payment information (processed by third-party payment processors)

Automatically Collected Information

When you use our Service, we may automatically collect:

  • Device information (type, operating system, unique device identifiers)
  • Log data (access times, pages viewed, app crashes)
  • Usage information (features used, actions taken)

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our Service
  • Process and track shared expenses between co-parents
  • Send you notifications about expense activity
  • Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues
  • Comply with legal obligations

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • With your co-parent: Expense data is shared within your workspace with your designated co-parent.
  • Service providers: We share information with third-party vendors who perform services on our behalf. Current sub-processors include Convex (backend and database), Cloudflare (hosting and CDN), Sentry (error monitoring), PostHog (product analytics), Resend (transactional email), RevenueCat (subscription management), and Apple / Google (app store billing). See the "AI Processing" section below for AI-specific sub-processors.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights.

AI Processing

ParentSplit uses artificial intelligence to scan receipts, extract line items, and suggest expense categories. To provide these features, we send receipt images and related text to the following third-party AI providers:

  • Google Cloud (Vertex AI): primary receipt-scanning provider. Subject to Google Cloud's data processing terms, which prohibit use of your data to train Google's models.
  • Google AI Studio (Gemini API): fallback receipt-scanning provider. Used only if Vertex AI is unavailable.
  • xAI (Grok): secondary fallback for receipt scanning. Subject to xAI's API terms, which prohibit training on your data.

Some receipt scanning is also performed on-device using a local model (Google Gemma), in which case your receipt image never leaves your phone.

We do not train AI models on your data. We do not use your receipts, expense data, or any personal information to train, fine-tune, or improve machine learning models — ours or anyone else's. Our AI vendors are contractually prohibited from doing so as well.

If this ever changes, we will update this Privacy Policy, notify you in-app, and give you a meaningful opt-out before any such use begins.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit and at rest
  • Secure authentication mechanisms
  • Regular security assessments
  • Access controls and audit logging

Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

ParentSplit is designed for use by adults (parents). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. The only information about children that we store is their first names, provided by parents for expense categorization purposes. This information is protected and only shared within the parent's workspace.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your personal information
  • Export your data
  • Opt out of certain data processing

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. You may request deletion of your account and data at any time. Some information may be retained for legal or legitimate business purposes.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
